ROYAL SHOW FOR PALMERSTON.

IMPORTANT DEPARTURE PROPOSED. DISTRICT SEATS ON THE COMMITTEE. At the committee meeting of the Manawatu A. and P. Association Mr. R. S. Abraham moved : “That a committee be set up to consider and report on the advisability of altering the rules in the way of allocating a certain number of seats on the committee to the Feilding, Levin. Woodville, _ Dannevirke, and Pahiatua Associations who shall elect their representatives annually. Such committee to consist of the President, Messrs. Cohen, Davies, Balsillie, McKelvie, Gibbons, and the mover.” ii at ■»»

Speaking to the motion, Mr. Abraham said that it was obvious that interest in the Association was on the wane, and it was equally patent that it was due to the fact that A. and P. Associations had been formed in different parts of the adjacent districts. The loss of interest would continue unless the Association took steps to counteract it, though at the same time it was felt that the Manawatu A. and P. Association was still the metropolitan body of the district. He said he was glad to notice the absence of any jealousy in connection with the younger Associations, and especially mentioned the great support received from the Feilding Associa-f tion. (Hear, hear.) He expressed! the opinion that the greatest good ) would follow the appointment of members to the committee in the direction indicated by him, whilst it would also give the Association the benefit of the services of men who, perhaps, in the ordinary course, would not get on to the general committee. Mr. M. Cohen seconded the proposal, which he warmly eulogised, stating that he was perfectly in accord with it. Mr. E. Short expressed the opinion that the motion was but a step in the direction of making the Show a Royal Show, which there was no doubt the Manawatu and Christchurch fixtures should be. He said that in the Argentine the Government erected all show buildings, and he thought that the same should obtain here. Mr. Jacob thought that the other Associations should be consulted on the subject before anything definite was done. Mr. R. Stevens expressed the opinion that the other Associations would welcome the idea. (Hear, The motion was carried, and it was decided, on the motion of Mr. : Cohen, to add the names of Wanganui and Masterton AssociaI tions.—Manawatu Standard.
