CONCILIATION COUNCIL.
CARPENTERS AND JOINERS. A meeting of the Conciliation Council was held in Napier this morning, Mr. P. Halley, Conciliation Commissioner, presided. The dispute was an industrial one between the Napier and Hastings Branches of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners’ Industrial Union of Workers, and the Hawke’s Bay Builders and Contractors Union of Employers. The details of the award applied for were published in yesterday’s “Tribune.” The assessors for the Employers were Messrs. H. Bull, W. A. Chambers, and J. Phillips, and for the Employees Messrs. J. Hookings, of Napier, and R. McArthur and J. Moulton, both of Hastings. Mr. S. E. Wright appeared for the H.B. County Council, the Education Board, and the Woodville County’ Council, and asked that these bodies be exempted from the terms of the proposed award.
