Alert intelligence is the better part of competency and alertness the intelligence caanot be disassociated from up-to-dateness. The | daily newspaper is the most up-to-date medium of instruction in i many branches of knowledge | which cannot be secured from the I text books. The world is moving all the time, and teachers must move with it. In order to keep withing sight of the line of progress t iicy must keep in touch with the newspapers. Intellectual stagnation has always been the menace of teachers as a class. The “living present” is the day of the newspaper, and wdiile the past must not be slighted, much less discarded, the present is always on the floor, loudly calling for recognition, which cannot be refused by any teacher worthy of the name —Exchange.
