MR. J. C. WILLIAMSON’S COMPANY. “HENRY OF NAVARRE.” This evening at eight o’clock will see the first appearance in Hastings of William Devereux’s romantic play "Henry of Navarre.” The piece is said to be splendidly mounted, with the cast an exceptionally strong one. The story of the Gascon hero is treated in true picturesque manner. The scenes are set chiefly in the Louvre. Henry of Navarre, as shown by the author, is lured to the Court of King Charles by the offer of a marriage with Marguerite de Valois, iu order that he and the rest of the Huguenots may be destroyed. In the nature of things the St. Bartholomew’s day massacre is in the play. The intrigues of Katherine de Medici, the Queen Mother, the Duke of Anjou, the Marshal de Tavannes and the Duke of Guise, extort from the King his consent to the massacre. One of the thrills of the play in the tense moment when the plotters are waiting for the bell to ring out the signal for the butchery to commence. The play is said to be full of good things in the way of beautiful costumes, correct in detail and design to the period, some splendid stage settings, a brilliantly written book and excellent music specially composed for the play. The piece will be interpreted by Mr. J. C.. Williamson’s London company. The cast will be as follows : Henry de Bourbon (Lionel A twill), the Duke of Guise (Charles Blackall), Due D’Anjou (Robert Bottomley), De Mouhy (Vivian Edwards), Ruggieri (Maurice Dudley), Marshal de Tavannes (Eardly Turner), and Charles IX.
