THE DAYS OF OLD. ! FORTHCOMING JUBILEE. , ■ ~— ! On Saturday week the Gabriel’s > Gully jubilee celebrations will take: place, when the old time diggers j and prospectors of fifty years jigo will foregather and exchange re-*; miniscences. . I Following is the programme Saturday, May 20--General ... 4 ; e-! ception of the pioneers, who Xtre ! expected to arrive on this day. Sunday. May 21 —Special services to be held at all the local churches. Monday, May 22--Bells to be rung at b a.m. There will be a procession in the afternoon, headed by the Tuapeka Brass Band. The procession will consist of pioneers of 1861, followed by those of 1862, Mounted Ritles. Fire Brigade. Cadets and general public. Various items reminiscent of the early days will be arranged for, such as bullock drays and sledges, pack horses, escort of mounted troupers, and diggers in typical digging costume, etc. After the procession addresses by a Minister of the Crown, members of Parliament. and others will be given. I There will be a grand torchlight procession and a concert at night.
Tuesday. May 23 - Various parts of the district will be visited, including Gabriel’s Gully. 1-VV e.therstones. Waitahuna. Bhie Spur, etc. There will be a social gathering at night. Wednesday. May 21- "Umpire Day” celebrations in the morning, a football match and sports in the afternoon, and a complimentary dinner in the evening. Thursday, May 25 -Conference of old-time and present-day miners, a picnic in the afternoon, and a smoke concert at night. Friday. May 26 —General leavetaking and departure of '‘OldTimers” will end the week’s celebrations.
