London. May 10. ; Sir E. Shackelton has been proi inised. in response to his appeal, valuable supplies for Dr. Maws m s equipment, A Westralian contributes £'looo. and Madam Melba ‘£loo, making a total of £9OOO in hand for Dr. Mawson’s fund. Melbourne, May 10.
Tin l Federal Cabinet decided that the request for a grant of £20,000 for the Mawson expedition must be left to Parliament to decide.
MAWSOX’S AERIAL EQUIP-

Lieut. Hugh Walkins. of the Essex regiment, will be the pilot of Dr. Mawson’s monoplane. It ; will be manufactured by Messrs. ' Vickers, Son and Maxim, and will have a screen to protect the pilot ; and passengers from cold. The monoplane will be employed for mapping and surveying tasks at the southernmost depot, and will ■ carry sufficient petrol for a single flight to the Pole and return to the depot, namely, two hundred and fifty miles.
