ARMAMENTS AND MEN.

THE TARANAKI SOLDIERS

New Plymouth, May 10

Major-General Godley reviewed the local Territorials to-night and addressed them. He said he was pleased with the material and with the soldierly appearance of the men, and hoped that the companies would be increased to their full strength with the same stamp of men. He warned them that no man was a soldier who did not keep his arms clean. He did not infer that the local arms were not clean, but there were such in the Dominion. and it had to be stopped. He hoped the old soldiers would stick to the work and stiffen the ranks. General Godley said he had read the military history of Taranaki and was much impressed by it.
