MEETING OF TECHNICAL COLLEGE COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Technical College UiMiimittee was held yesterday afternoon. Pi esent: Messrs. C. H. Edwards (chairman), S. McLernon. F. Bee. T. F. Taylor, and J. AV. Williams.

Leave of absence was granted to D. A. Baxter.

The Director, in his report, stated that tiie new engineering sciiuol was being pushed on at a verirapid rate, and that within a month the premises would probably be completed. The attendance at the day school was 79, three having left. The average attendance for the z month

was 73. The school picnic held on Easter Tuesday had proved a great success.

Miss Miller had resigned her position as Shorthand instructress, and Nir. James Connor had been appointed in her place. Mr. Simmonds was appointed janitor. The entries for the City and Guilds and the South Kensington examinations had been very large. In accordance with the new regu lations of the Defence Department a senior cadet company had beet formed. At present there were 9( enrolments, and it was expectec that they would total 12".

The Chairman and other nembers expressed themselves as being very well satisfied with the report of the work done during the last month.

■ CORRESPONDENCE. I A letter was received from I Messrs. Kennedy ami Lusk asking ’that the sum of £6 owing to Mr. AV. A. Amner be assured them out ■of Mr. J. Alexander’s bankrupt 1 estate.--Received.

Mr. Stimrt Robinson, Staff-offi-cer of Senior Cadets, wrote concerning the formation of a cadet company of both the day and evening pupils. It was stated that the boys would be uniformed at the expense of the Defence Department. —As this matter had been discussed by t he Director in his report. the letter was received. A letter was received from the Deputy Official Assignee disclaiming nil liability for ihe machinery. Hr.. commuted with rhe erection A tiu- now nngnmering school.- — The Secretary of the A. and P. Societ.x wrote forwarding a cheque of L’lo towards the funds of the College, and also stating that Mr. F. \V. Williams was appointed thmr representative on the Board oof Managers.—Received. The clerk of the Hawke’s Bay County Council wrote forwarding

a grant of £25. It was also stated that the two members as representatives on the Board of Management had not been appointed. —Received with thanks. The matter of refunding a rum oof money which a pupil had paid and who then found he was unable to attend the classes, was left m the hands of the chairman. Accounts amounting to £3O/Li,were passed for payment. The director and secretary of the Techmeal College at Christchurch wrote asking that the Board would co-operate in approaching the Government with a view to the establishment of scholarships to enable pupils from Day Technical Schools to continue their education at higher Technical Institutions, such as the Canterbury College School of Engineering. It was requested that the Board
