MR. W. G. BAKER’S PICTURES.

A final reminder is given that Mr. M . G. Baker’s pictures will be sold by auction by Messrs. Lundon. Stewart and Co., Ltd., at Hastings to-morrow afternoon at 2 o’clock. The sale will be held in their rooms, where the pictures are now on view. Mr. Baker, who is a New Zealander, has a reputation which is not confined to the Dominion alone. His pictures have been greatly admired both in Australia and America, where they have been eagerly bought. He has his admirers in the Old Country, too, and the pictures to be offered to-morrow were, as a matter of fact, painted expressly for disposal at Home. This is sufficient guarantee of their merit. Health reasons, however. prevented Mr. Baker from making the trip to the Ohl Country, and he therefore decided to dispose of them in New Zealand. They are in both water colour and oils, handsomely framed and the artist's skill .stands out prominently in every one of them. They comprise scenes from all the best-known beauty spots in New Zealand, which is enough to say that the subjects are of surpassing loveliness. In water colour there are such pictures as Lakes Alanapouri and Rotorua, the Kenepuri Sounds. Clinton Valley. Whangarei Harbour, and others. In oils there are Dusky Sound. Lakes Ada, Manapouri, and Waikare, Buller Gorge. Clinton River, Wanganui River. Otira Gorge, and others. In all there are 42 pictures to be disposed of —18 in water colour and 42 in oils—-and it may be suggested that nothing could be better than a handsome picture for a present. The sale is at 2.30 o'clock to-morrow (Thursday) afternoon. and this evening and tomorrow the public are cordially invited to make their final inspections at the rooms where the pictures are on view.
