PERSONAL.

Mr. J. D. Rivers left Hastings this morning for 'Wellington. Air. W. Bridgman left Hastings this morning for Waimate. Air. and Airs. E. Rathbone. Waipawa, were in Napier yesterday.

Mr. J. T. Wellwood left Hastings this morning en route for the Old Country. Air. and Airs. O’Aleara, of Gisborne, are at present in Napier en route to their home.

Air. P. Halley, Conciliation Commissioner, left by the express train for Palmerston North this morning.

Air. 8. E. AVright leaves Napier to-day to join his wife in Auckland and spend a fortnight’s holiday in the Northern Capital. The officer in command of the Wellington District, under the new defence scheme, Lieutenant-Col. E. AM C. Chaytor, arrived in Napier to-day. Lieutenant H. S. Robinson, staff officer to Lieutenant-Colonel Chaytor, officer commanding the AVellington Military District, arrived in Napier last evening. The work Lieutenant Robinson has come upon is the organisation of the senior cadets in Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, and AAYllington. He hopes to leave for Gisborne on Friday. A double wedding of great interest was solemnised at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Auckland, last week, when the two daughters of Air. AV. J. Ralph, were married, the elder, Aliss Alarie Ralph, to Air. Patrick Higgens, son of Air. John Higgins, of Napier, and Miss Kitty Ralph to Lieutenant Cecil Garegan, of H.AI.S. Iris. The ceremony was a choral one, and was performed by Bishop Cleary, assisted by Father Holbrook and Father Ormond.

A pretty and popular wedding was celebrated at St. Alichael’s Church, Porangahau, on AA rednesday last. when Olive, eldest daughter of Air. and Airs. Samuel Beattie, was married to Mr. Alilton Blackman, of AVaipawa. The church was prettily decorated, and there was a large attendance of friends of the bride. Air. C. Beattie w r as best man, and Alisses Peggy’ and Alussie Beattie, sisters of the bride, were bridesmaids. The Rev. F. E. T. Simcox conducted the ceremony, after w’hich the wedding party adjourned to the Town Hall, where, the wedding breakfast was partaken of. A dance was held in the evening. The bride and mJ?groom were the recipients of many useful presents.
