ALLEGED CONTEMPT OF

COURT.

Sydney, April 28. On the resumption of the Coal Vend case, counsel for the Commonwealth made a statement on behalf of Mr. Hughes in connection with bis Adelaide speech. Mr. Hughe-?; ci: me.J J:c did not say anything contempt of court, or anything that could in any way prejudice the defendants. He did not admit that he made any references to the case other tnan in his opinion was justifiable. At the same time he gave his assurance that he would, not publicly comment on the case till the court had given its decision upon it.

MINE MANAGER’S EVIDENCE.

Mr. Wheeler, manager of the Newcastle Wall semi mine, . who stood out of the Vend on account of his objection to being bound to sell coal to certain steamship owners only, gave evidence that before the Vend was formed the output of his mine was 150,000 tons yearly for interstate trade. After the formation of the Vend his output sank to 10,000. This was due to the steamship owners declining to put his coal before their customers.
