MAYORAL ELECTION,

HASTINGS.

MR. T. J. THOMPSON will address the Electors on MONDAY, April 24th, at 8 p.m., in ST. MATTHEW’S HALL.

HASTINGS MAYORAL ELEC-

TION.

E LECTORS OF HASTINGS,— On the 26th inst. you will decide by your votes who is to be your Chief Magistrate for the coming year. At the request of a large number of representative burgesses, I have the honour to offer myself as a candidate for your suffrages. You have now entrusted your Council with the expenditure of a very large sum of money for specific purposes, and your M:wor and Council will require to exercise the most rigid care and economy to see that your money is not wasted, otherwise further borrowing will be absolutely necessary to complete works already authorised. The putting in proper repair of our roads after pipelaying is finished will entail a considerable expenditure, and if antiquated methods are employed much money m?.v be wasted. If elected, my endeavour will be to adopt up-to-date means to make roads of a permanent character throughout the bor>.;gh at a minimum cost, an generai’y to exercise care in the conduct of public business and expenditure. My sole object in seeking election at this critical stage .n th-' history cf Hastings is to furthe? ihe interests of our town, as I thinx my past experience, as Councillor for seven years and Mayor for three years, will enable me to a-'oid some of the mistakes which a less experienced man may make. If, therefore, I can be of service to you, and my past record merits your confidence, vote for me. If not, vote for the candidate best fitted to safeguard and advance the interests of Hastings, and you will please yours truly,

T. J. THOMPSON.

HASTINGS MAYORAL ELECTION.

TO THE ELECTORS OF HASTINGS.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

T HAVE much pleasure in. an- -*• nouncing to you my candidature for the office of the Mayor of Hastings. I do not need to remind you that I am not new to the position or work. In 1904 I contested the. position, and am happy to say I was successful. During the time of my Mayoralty I did my utmost for the welfare of the Borough, and made many sacrifices in order that I might serve the public, and if you again elect me to this honourable position you can rely upon the same unceasing effort. I am free from business, and therefore am able to devote all my time to the work the position requires. Without fear or favour I should endeavour to discharge any duties which might fall to me if elected. It is my intention to address the Electors in the Princess Theatre on TUESDAY evening, April 25th (the night before the Election), at 8.30 o’clock. I am,

Your obedient servant, WILLIAM LANE. Hastings, April 19, 1911.
