THE MONIER PIPES CONTRACT.
A SETTLEMENT EFFECTED. The Hastings Borough Council have arranged a settlement with Mr. R. McGaffin in regard to his contract for the supply of Monier pipes. Mr. Hallett s first sewage scheme provided for a new length of main sewer of large Monier pipes. On Dr. Frengley's and Mr. Climie’s suggestions, this was done away with, thus saving the Borough about £3OOO. Consequently arrangements had 'to be made with Mr. McGaffin for| cancelling the contract lor Monierj pipes, roughly costing about* £5200. Mr. McGaffin was asked toj state thr- sum hr would require for. compensation, and he claimed I shout £-2‘ioo. owing to the plant' and buildings h»* had to erect, and for loss of profit. The matter has now been settled] by a payment of £"O»' cash and i £290 spread ou-r the fii'-t two] months' delivery of m-w pipes. Thei Council, moreover. Lave had an] amended specification and agree-1 ment prepared by their legal ad-| risers. which al-'O safeguards them. The new specific at ion. owing to the alteration in the size of the pipes, has brought about a saving of quire L'luoo mi the cement pipe contract, as well as the saving on the Monier pip-—.
