THE GUMFIELD MURDER.

A CALLOUS PRISONER.

Whangarei, April 24.

The Maori Kaka lias been remanded to April 26th, on a charge of murdering John Freeman, at Puhipuhi. The inquest was resumed, and a number of native witnesses gave evidence, generally verifying Kaka's sudden acquisition of wealth a few days after the supposed date of the murder.

The prisoner still appears callously indifferent to the seriousness of his position.
