MESSAGERIES MARITIMES
A RUMOUR DENIED.
(Received 22, 9.15 a.m.) , Melbourne, April 22. The general manager of the Messageries Maritices emphatically denies the rumour that the Company contemplote withdrawing from the Australian trade. The present contract expires in July, 1912. Negotiations between the Company' and the French Government for renewal have not been completed. No one as yet is aole to say what the new agreement.; will be.
(Received 22, 8.5 a.m.) London, April 91. The Tongariro, due at Teneriffe on the 17th, arrived to-day. The delay was due to slight defects :n her boilers. A fair amount of reinsurances were effected prior to arrival at 2 to 7 per centum, closing at 6.
Arrivals The Clan Shaw from Lyttelton, the Afghanistan from Oamaru, the Sussex from Wanganui.
