CONFERENCE IN DUNEDIN

Dunedin, April 20. \ A conference between represent*atives of the City Council, the Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards the Drainage Board, the HarbourBoard, and the Health Department was held this afternoon to consider what steps should be taken to prevent the introduction of plague into the city. In the course of a lengthy discussion. the importance of a vigorous crusade against rats was emphasised. also the need for a general clearing-up of premises in the city and suburbs.

It was mentioned that a number of dilapidated houses were still standing, and that the City Council had met with several rebuffs in its efforts to have them demolished.

It was decided that a house-to-house inspection be put into operation as soon as possible, the cost to be borne by the City Council, the Hospital Board, the Drainage Board, and the Harbour Board.
