ADDINGTON MARKET.

Cristchurch, April 19. At Addington there were fairly large entries of stock. There was also a good attendance of buyers. Fat cattle showed little or no change in values. Store sheep were dull of sale. Fat lambs were not quite equal to last week’s rates, and prime fat sheep were firm, whilst others were easier. Store cattle were dull of sale, and dairy cows in keen demand. The yarding of store

sheep was smaller than of late. Fwes p.nt’ wethers formed the bulk <f the cut*-. •, ;»n< : the ewes v. ere nxtsily aged and tj e wc-ihers of a mixed class. Th., demand was weak, and sales could only be ef-

fected at a reduction on last week’s rates, the only exceptions being in the case of forward wether and good ewes. 'There were on’y tio < r three pens of lamns offere .:, and these were not of good quality. The range of prices for local sht ep

I was good. Two-tooth crossbred j ewes to 12/11 ; four, six and u&iitI tooths 12/4, s.m. 8/- to 11/6, aged I ~ - to 3/3, medium wethers 10/10. inI ferior and small halfbreds 8/6 to ; 9,6, lambs to 5/6. Oversea sheep ! sold as follows : —Good wethers 12/-, I others 5, 6 to 7/6. 2-th ewes 9/6, 6 [ and 8-th ewes 7/9, s.m. 4/9 to 7/5. There was an entry of 6675 lambs as against 6903 last week. The quality was not equal to last week’s supply. The nominal basis upon which buy-

ers were operating was 4d per lb., but values were so irregular that this may be taken as no more than an average. There were 5866 taken for freezing at 10/- to 15/4, 416 were taken by butchers at 11/2 to 14/5, and one special line of 16/-, and 393 were passed at 10/9 to 14/-. There was a large entry of fat sheep, of which ewes formed much the larger portion. The wethers were mostly light and not 51’611 finished. The first prime lots of wethers sold well. Ewes were, in consequence of their numbers, easier in price, though the export buyers ? operated in all suitable lots for freezing. The range of prices was:—Extra prime wethers to 20/1, prime 15/6 to 17/9, lighter 12/1 to 15/-, prime ewes 12/- to 16/-, a few extra to 17/1, medium 9/6 to 11/6. aged 5/7 to 9/-, merino ewes 4/3 to 6/11.
