DROWNING CASES.

GIRL LOST AT DUNEDIN. [per press association.] Dunedin, April 14. A girl named Coleman, whose parents reside in Maori road, was drowned at Otago Heads to-day. Dunedin, April 15. The following are the details of yesterday’s drowning accident. Ellen Mary Cullinan, aged 15, and her brother William Cullinan, aged 13, left the home of the stepfather, Charles B. Miller, and journeyed to the Kaik in the Maheno. After their arrival, the Cullinans went along to the Kaik jetty to fish and it is surmised that after angling off the jetty for some time the boy and girl proceeded round the rocks to continue their fishing and got blocked in an inlet by the incoming tide, and that in trying to climb round the rocks again to get into a safe position the girl slipped and struck her head on the rocks and then fell into the water. The brother dived in to save her and caught hold of his sister, but himself got into difficulties. A Maori boy diving in succeeded in bringing him out. After some time William was brought round by artificial respiration. The body of his sister was brought to the surface by one of the crew of a dinghy. Deceased was taken on board the Maheno where artificial respiration was continued for over two hours unavailingly.
