Mr. McLeod stated that while in! Wellington he founu that it was possible to register brands, as trade j marks, at the Patents Office. He thought it was very desirable that the registration of wool brands should be made compulsory. There was no more difficulty in doing this than to register an ear mark. Tn-, stances were given, how wool was branded with the mark of a reliable station and not a part of the wool had come from that place. It was pointed out that to make the mat-, ter compulsory, an Act of Parliament was needed. Mr. McLean replied that he had interviewed the Minister of Agriculture, and the’ Minister stated that if the A. and P. Society thought it necessary thei matter would be brought before: Parliament at the varliest oppor- : tunity. Mr. J. D. Ormond moved that the Minister of Agriculture he communicated with in regard to this matter. Seconded by Mr. R. D. D. McLean.
Mr. J. Rratson spoke aeainst the motion. He stated that this mat- ’ ter was not a new thintr and that there was no need for it. Nn instance could be shown that anyone had suffered loss by the duplication of brands. (Left sitting.)
