BRITISH FAIR PLAY.

THE ELINGAMITE CASE.

Wellington, April 7.

Some time ago request was made to the Minister of Marine on behalf of the Merchant Service Guild that enquiry into the wreck of the Elingamite on the Three Kings should be re-opened, in view of the fact that it has since been found that the islands were wrongly chartered. The Hon. J. Millar has now written stating there is no power to grant a re-trial without legislation being passed to authorise it.

The Merchant Service Guild is now arranging for a deputation to wait on the Minister to urge him to bring in a Bill next session making provision for a re-hearing of the case.
