The engagement is announced of Miss Mary Doran, of Hastings, u Mr. Alex Steele, of Auckland Mr. George Hartshorn returned to Hastings last evening after a trip to Sydney. Mr. and Mrs. Kieth Cotterill, Gisborne, arrived by the boat yesterday, and are staying at the Masonic for a few days. Mr. Crawshaw. secretary if the Hawke’s Bay Education Board, left for Wellington by the steamer last evening. Sir George Reid in a letter to the ’‘Times” pays tribute to Mr. Moberly Bell's services to the country. Mr. George Hunter, of Porangahau, the prospective Opposition candidate for Waipawa at the general election, is in Napier today. Mr. Fisher and other members of the Federal Coronation Delegation have departed for London. They expect to return in August. Messrs. J. S. Large and C. B. Hoadley, J.P.’s, sat this morning for the purpose of hearing all objections to the new Jury List for Napier Supreme Court. No objections being forthcoming, the list was approved and duly signed. Mr. Con. Boyle, who was placed in Hawera Hospital on Thursday from injuries received as the result of a kick in the abdomen from a horse on Sunday last, has died. Deceased was popular among sporting people.
