MAGISTRATE’S COURT, NAPIER.

At the Napier Magistrate’s Court this morning, before I.'. B. Hoodley, ‘ J.P.. Adam Hayes, who was found lying in a pool of blood in Edwards street, on 21 st March, was brought up on a charge of drunkenness., Sergeant Cummings stated that the accused had been a navvy, but was now too old to do the work. He recommended that he should be convicted and discharged, and that the money found in his possession. £3'I6G, should be forfeited to pay his medical expenses at the Napier Hospital. This course was adopted, and his Worship said that he did not wish to be hard on an old man, and that instead or being sent ' to, prison he should be sent to the! Old People’s Home. Joseph Gannon, who only yesterday made an appearance in the dock on a charge of drunkenness, was again before his Worship for a similar offence. There were four' charges in all against him. viz : that i on April sth he entered and procured liquor from licensed premises l

during the currency of a prohibition order ; that he did use obscene language at Port Ahuriri; that he. did do wilful damage to a ’bus to the value of £1 ; and that he was found drunk in Byron street. A re-’ mand on all charges was granted! until next Monday. j
