TO AN OLD GRAVEL PIT.

While razing a chimney in a burnt hotel at Cocnrane, Ontario, a workman found a speck of gold in the mortar, and discovered 't came from a gravel-pit. The news leaked out, and the inhabitants, headed by the mayor, stampeded the gravel-pit. Dozens of claims are staked.
