OVERTIME AND HOLIDAYS.

The Industrial Court ruled that a sectional trades holiday was not a public holiday. The ruling is the outcome of the claiin that men kept working during the building trades celebration were entitled to overtime pay. VICTORIAN IRONWORKERS. Melbourne, Mar. 30. Recently the Iron Workers’ Society demanded ah all round increase of 1/- per day on wages. A conference resulted in an amicable arrangement, city employees receiving an advance of 6d and country employees, who have been receiving less than ruling rates, an advance of 2/- to 2/6 daily.
ENGINEERS’ DISPUTE SET-

(Received 31, 8.5 a.m.) London, Mar. 30. The engineering dispute has been adjusted through mediation of Mr. G. R. Askwith. The number of eight hour shifts has been considerably increased.
THREATENED STRIKE.
Ottawa, Mar. 30.
The Minister of Labour is intervening in a threatened strike of miners at Alberta,'in British Columbia, and is hopefid of preventing it.
RAILWAY Adelaide, Mar. 31. One hundred and fifty men at Angaston railway , works struck owing to employment ,of a non-union-ist.

Court s president warmly rebuked counsel appearing on;behalf of the’ -respondents in the engineers’ dispute, for alleging that members of i the union not only broke . their with impunity, but were encouraged by Government : The president declined to listen to such remarks, and would not allow i Government to be spoken about in 1 such a disrespectful and extrava--1 gant way.
