MISS AMY CASTLES TO-NIGHT
Miss Amy Castles, “ Australia’s famous Queen of Song,” makes her first appearance in Hastings on her farewell tour of New Zealand prior to her departure for London, where she is engaged to appear in grand opera. This evening Messrs. J. and N. Tait will introduce Miss Castles in the realm in which she has won great fame, both in England and on thd Continent, whilst in Australia her concert tour, interrupted as it was by her p.dvenl into grand opera, was one long recurrence of sensational triumphs of merit, which places her in the front rank of the many great singers who have visited Australia. Miss Castles will sing this evening: Aria, “Cara Nome” (Rigoletto— Verdi) ; waltz song (“ Romeo and Juliet” —Thomas); (a) “At Twilight,” (b) “ ’Twas April” (Nevin); and, by special request, “Ave Maria” (Gounod), and also “Home, Sweet Home,” with ’cello obligato by Herr Louis Hattenbach. Mr. Alex Camphausen will sing : “ Erl King ” (Schubert), “ Star of Eve ” (Wagner). Mr. Louis Hattenbach’s numbers are : “Le Cygne ”, (SaintSaens), “ Scherzo ” (Van Goens), and Nocturne, Op. 9 No. .2 (Chopin). Mr. William Conway, who, with the other artists, makes his first appearance, will render “ Rhapsodie Hongroise ” (Liszt),/ “Polonaise in A flat” (Chopin). A large booking has been received at Mr. Hall’s. Three shilling tickets are now available at Mr. Cor hen’s shop. Miss Castles arrived this morning from Gisborne.
