GIRL’S TRAGIC ACT.
DROWNS HERSELF AND HER
CAPTOR.
(Received 29, 9.30 a.m.) London, Mar. 28. A girl arrested for stealing at Matlock, in Derbyshire, jumped into the river. The policeman followed. The girl gripped him and refused to release her hold, and both were drowned. A second policeman dived repeatedly into fifteen feet of water, but could not succeed in rescuing them.
