ENTERTAINMENTS IN HOTELS Wellington. Mar. 28. To-day Mr. Justice Cooper quashed the conviction recorded by the magistrate against Donnel’y, exlicensee of the New Zealander Hotel, for allowing liquor to be consumed after hours. lings arose out of a smoke concert being held in the hotel by the Ramblers’ Football Club. His Honor hei.i that on the facts given, it could lot be claimed that the appellant had con nived at a breach of the law. “It has been urged,” added the 'udge, “that if the appeal is allowed, it will be difficult to enforce the law. I do not agree with this. The simj>le remedy is that the police shall insist on all entertainments, if held in a licensed house, ceasing at the hour at which the house is directed to be closed.”
