CHAMBER CONCERT.
The second of the chamber concerts was given in St. Paul’s Hall, Napier, last evening, and was attended by a numerous and enthusi- i astic audience.' There was every! reason for enthusiasm, for the programme was admirably selected, and the interpretation of the various items was of a very high order. | Lemare’s Andantino, a charming I composition, with great opportunities of expression, Was splendidly rendered with true appreciation of its feeling. The well-known dances from “ Henry VIII.” (German) was; another splendid item. The Mu st el organ is particularly adapted for ! orchestral concerts on account of its wealth of lone and possibilities of expression. The flautist, Mr. Louis Hay, extracts a rich evenness of tone from his instrument, which is decidedly pleasing. Miss Basil Jones delighted her hearers with her dainty songs. Her voice lacks volume, but is very pleasing, and demonstrates what can be accomplished by really good tuition. The entire concert was thoroughly enjoyable, and we are glad to hear that tne series will be continued. The programme was as follows :—Overture, “Comedietta” ; “Serenade Italienne ” ; march, “Scenes Pittoresque ” ; songs, “Youth has a Happy Tread,” “You, Dear, and I,” Miss Basil Jones; “ Berceuse ” (two violins and piano); three dances (“ Henry VIII.”); ‘‘ Saterjentens Sondag ” (melody) ; recitation, “ Absalom,” Miss Basil Jones ; overture “ Guillame Tell ”; “Andantino”; “Salut d’Amour ” ; ‘ Amoretten Tanze Waltzes.”
