Bridgman, of Hastings, left for hei- home this morn- < ing. The wedding of Miss Edith Mac- ! rae, daughter of Mrs. D. Macrae, of Hastings, to Mr. A. W. Allen, will take place in the Baptist Church on Wednesday, 12th April, at 2 p.m. By the last English mail the following pupils of the Meanee Convent school received Shorthand certificates from Sir Isaac Pitman and Sons, London -.—Daniel O’Sullivan. Agnes Dooney, Annie Lawton. and Elsie McElvie. The Hon. R. McKenzie is now in ■ Wellington after an absence from ' the capital of nearly three weeks. IHe left Wellington on Saturday, 4th inst, for Auckland and visited i various places in that locality. He next visited Rotorua, Tauranga, Te Puke and then back to Rotorua. He next went to Whakatane and opened a bridge and on to Te Tekc where he turned the first sod of the Rangataiki drainage scheme which will affect an area of 700,000 acres. | From thence the party journeyed to Opotiki and overland to Motu and then by a very rough road to Gisborne. They visited Tologa Bay, Takomaru and Waipiro and returned to Gisborne, and travelled overland to Wairoa and Napier. The journey undertaken shows the pluck and energy’ possessed by the Minister of Public vVorks and it is evident he intends to get into close touch with his work.

The chief clerk at the Napier P<®t Office, Mr. G. F. Smallbone, who has been transferred and promoted to the position of postmaster at Marton, was met yesterday by members of the various staffs in connection with the Napier Post Office, and a representative of the mail-carriers presented him with a silver double sovereign case. Several country offices subscribed for this present. Mr. Chaney, the Chief Postmaster, in making the presentation, said that they were sorry to lose the services of an efficient and valuable clerk as Mr. Sms.Hbone had shown himself to be. ?n conclusion he wished him every success in his new position. Messrs. W. Greatbatch, W. J. Worthington. A. E. Israel, and P. Barry expressed themselves in similar terms. Mr. Smallbone suitably responded.
