STEAMER MISSING.
150 SOULS ABOARD. OPTIMISTIC HOPES. (PJELBBS ASSOCIATION.—COPY EIGHT.) Brisbane, Mar. 27. There are no tidings of the Yongala. Altogether about 150 souls were aboard, including the ship’s company, numbering 72. Several steamers, including three Government vessels, are continuing the search. Knight, captain of the Yongala, is an experienced officer. The belief is expressed that he/either ran to the open sea to escape a cyclone or possibly tiie machinery is damaged and he is sheltering inshore. The cost between Mackay and Brisban . is intricate and will require close searching. FEARFUL WEATHER REPORTED. ARRIVING CAPTAINS NOT HOPEFUL. (Received 28, 10.20 a.m.) Brisbane, Mar. Captains of ai riving vessels report a severe cyclonic storm and blinding rain at the time the Yongala was off Dent Island, Where she was last sighted. The vicinity is beset with reefs and islands, and they do not take a hopeful view of her having been able to head out seaward.
