SEDGWICK’S BOYS.
A LABOUR PROTEST
Wellington, Mar. 24.
Early this month, Mr. T. E. Sedgwick. who was instrumental in bringing a number oi youths to the Dominion to take up positions on Farms addressed a meeting at Dannevirke, at which he is reported to have said that he had interviewed the Minister of Labour asking that a Government grant of £9 per head for the passage mbney should be made on a further batch of young immigrants from the Old Country. Mr. Sedgwick stated there were 500 farmers here waiting for these boys. The request for a grant was refused by Mr. Millar until the first contingent of lads had spent twelve months in the Dominion.
The Wellington Trades and Labour Council has decided that a de putation shall wait on Mr. Millar protesting against any further boys being brought out. The council objects to State aid for these boys, or any other ; ndentured labour.
