Before ' the schooner left New Caledonia, a schooner had arrived from the island with an urgent call for the help of white settlers whose lives were threatened by the revolting natives. . . British and French authorities arranged for Uie immediate despatch of a police* force and the French warship Kersmnt. The result of their mission is not known.
