NAPIER HARBOUR BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual mouldy meeting of the above Board was held in the County Council Chambers, Napier, to-day. Present : Messrs. F. W. Williams (chairman.), S. Carnell, J. Clark, ( has. E. Ellison, A. E. Jull, Butler, W. A. Chambers, Kinross White. E. J. Wan. Accounts lor the year were placed before the meeting and passed. Air. Juil took the opportunity to congratulate the Board upon the improved j'inaitcial position. Leave of absence was granted to Mr. Shrimpton. The British Fire Prevention Company asked the Board to subscribe to its publication re fire protection. SECTION DREDGE MOTION. Air. A. E. Jull, in accordance with notice of motion, moved that : "In order that the doubts of the origin of the sand bar referred to by Messrs. Maxwell, Williams, and Mason’s report, ami in Air. Geo. Nelson’s harbour proposals, should be cleared up, and in order that the likelihood or otherwise of any channel dredged through such sand bar being wholly obliterated in heavy weather, be given a series of practical tests, this board authorises the chartering of a suitable suction dredge for three or six months for the purpose of dredging out a sufficient channel to show what effect heavy weather or Hoods would have upon it.” After lengthy discussion the motion was amended by adding the words “And that the Secretary obtain for the next meeting all the information obtainable in the Dominion as to cost.” The amended on being put to the meeting was carried. RATE LEVY FOR CURRENT YEAR. “That notice be advertised of the board’s intention to make and levy such a rate over the harbour district- for the current year as will produce not more than £12.500. and that the annual estimates (if noti already prepared) be prepared and submitted to a meeting (ordinary or special as may be arranged) in the month of April, when such rate may be confirmed.” Seconded by Mr. AV. A. Chambers and carried, the Chairman ami Mr. CarnelFs being the only dissentient voices.
