DISASTER AT THE PHILIPPINES. VILLAGES DESTROYED. > [PRESS ASSOCIATION’. —COPYRIGHT. Sydney, March 8. Eastern files contain details of the eruptions of the volcano of Taal, 34 miles from Manila. It started at 2 a.m. on January 29th. simultaneously with two prolonged earthquakes. All the town within the radius of 20 miles suffered from a deluge of stones and mud. The Island of T»*u sank several ( feet, and following the sinking a wave 4ft high swept the shore for a radius of 4 miles, wrecking many houses. The Manila observatory reports, that a remarkable electrical storm continued for two hours with deafening thunder. Lava and stones were belched out to a height of 3000 ft. The observatory recorded 332 shocks.
People in all dinvt ions abandoned their villages and fled to the hills in the interior. The southern railroad was damaged, * and mud and ashes cover the tracks.
The authorities say that Manila is sinking. The Taisya district is partly submerged and the crops rained. An American school teacher who. traversed the western short of Lake Taal, reported that villages were destroyed by the tidal wave and• 300 persons killed.
