Lieut.-General Sir Reginald Pole ’ Carew has been elected chairman ■ of the Central Emigration Board’s ! special committee to deal with ! the immigration of ex-soldiers. < ASSISTED EMIGRANTS DUR- ’ ING 1910. London, Mar. 8. j In 1910 the total number of 1 Government assisted emigrants to I Australia was 12,304, and nominiated 8507. Of these 9337 were ; men, 6202 women, 5212 children. 6916 went to Queensland, 5212 to I New South Wales, 5023 to South | Australia, and 3600 to Victoria.
MORALS ABOARD SHIP.
Sydney, March 9.
The Methodist Conference discussed the immoral temptations to which female immigrants were subjected during a voyage. The speakers advocated the employment of a higher type of matron. The matter is placed in the hands of the Methodist Mission.
