AFTER MANY YEARS. OLD MAX SEEKS DIVORCE.
New Plymouth, March 8.
; A somewhat extraordinary {divorce case, was heard in the SupIrcine Court this morning. Parties • named Nielsen were married >n I Denmark in 1866, and afterwards I came to Taranaki. Twenty three iyears ago the wife ran away with i another man. There were no children , and after a lapse of all •these years the husband seeks ! divorce on ground of desertion. A i {decree nisi was granted. i ’ THE INDETERMINATE SENT- ; ENCE. { Durwdin. March 8. * In the Supreme Court this morn- > ing Joseph Sweeney, on three ': charges of house-breaking in the Ophir district, came up for sentence. Judge Williams sentenced I him to not less than five years’ indeterminate sentence.
LAND SETTLEMENT FINANCE.
Auckland, March 8. There is considerable activity in Waikato in the direction of acquisition of large properties by Associations. formed under the Land Settlement Finance Act. Arrangements are completed for (he purchase of Mr. H. J. Greenslade’s farm of 1070 acres, at Kaipaki. The price is understood to be £l4 per acre. M". Greenslade purchased Isaac Coater? property at Hamilton and resides there. -
