The fifth annual sports held by the Hastings Cycling and Athletic Club were held at Cornwall Park, Hastings, to-day, in excellent weather. Last night heavy rain fell for some time, and this had the effect of softening the track somtwhat, thus making it in good order. Several crack runners expressed their opinion that the track could not be better. For the cyclists it was also' good, as it was soft enough to hold the tyres, but not soft enough to be slippery. The running was above the usual standard, a number of runners being present who are considered as the best that the Dominion has. Both in the running and cycling events, the finishes were exceedingly close, thus reflecting great credit on the handicapper, Mr. AV. Callender. A word of praise is due to Mr. Rosenberg and his willing band of assistants for the way in which they carried out their duties. Mr. J. Brandon, the starter, was impartial in his starting, and got all the fields away well. Frimley Handicap, 100 yards.— First heat: H. G. Grubb (85yds) 1, E. J. Donnelly (7yds) 2. Won by two yards.
