HASTINGS RAILWAY STATION

LATE MR. MILWARD’S SUCCESSOR.

The following is the text of the address presented to Mr. A. E. Polloock, stationmaster at Thorndon (and now transferred to Hastings), by the Manawatu Railway Company’s employees:—“To A. E. Pollock, Esq.—On the eve of your departure from Thorndon to Hastings on transfer, we, the . under-1 signed, ex-members of the late Manawatu Railway Company’s service, desire to express to you our sincere regret at your departure from our midst. The deep and enthusiastic interest you have al-; ways shown in connection with any! movement which had for its object' the betterment of the lot of the| railway employees will always be! remembered by us with feelings of; gratitude. We but express the! thoughts of all those who came in I contact with you during your long! connection with the service. When; we say that, we trust that you will; be spared for many years to enjoy' renewed health and happiness. I Trusting that you and yours may! prosper exceedingly is the sincere' wish of yours sincerely.” (Here fol-; low the signatures.) The address, is artistically designed, mounted,! and bound in book form by Mr. A. Cassie, of the Wellington goods staff. On the front page, on which the name of the recipient is embossed in gold, are two railway views in water-colour. The top view represents an express train ascending an incline, and the lower a country station, and the whole surmounted by a gold border, the pages on which the address is written disclose a pillar and floral design. The address is bound in green plush, making a very beautiful trophy. Mr. Pollock leaves for Hastings on Thursday next to take up his duties at that station. —Dominion.
