The following changes in the local branches of the Post and Telegraph Department have been decided by the head office: —Mr. C. Higginson from Hastings to Dunedin : Mr. F. Burns from Hast ings to Napier; Messrs. Christiansen and Maebean from Napier to Hastings.
The death occurred at Hastings yesterday of Mr. James Wilkins, at the age of 43 years. Deceased had been a •victim to the dreaded disease of cancer for some considerable time and his death was not unexpected. The funeral leaves his late residence in Avenue road for the Hastings cemetery, at 2.30 p.m. to-morrow.
An interesting test case was heard at Palmerston North yesterday, when the Labour Department proceeded against the Borough Council for failing to register the Opera House, where a permanent picture show is run, as a factory. The case was laid under the Factories Act, which states that an.v place in which electrical energy is generated or transformed for the purpose of trade or sale shall constitute a factory. Judgment was reserved. The decision affects all picture houses in the Dominion.
