The Duke of Bedford, speaking at Bedford, denounced the Veto Bill. The parties in power were the Nationalists and Labourites, fundamentally differing from each other, yet controlling the Cabinet from without. He hoped the Lords would introduce a clause preserving the double chamber government intact, otherwise he preferred to see the creation of 500 puppet peers.
