HASTINGS RAILWAY STATION.
THE DEPARTMENT TEMPORISES.
BY ALTERING THE OLD
BUILDING.
The Parcels Office at the Hast ings Railway Station is at present undergoing alterations. The coun ter is to be divided and the spac< at present allowed to the public will be cut in halves and one half Will be devoted to the storage of goods and the other portion will be still available for the public. The office at present used as the goods shed office will also be used for storage purposes, and a new office will be erected at the southern end of the shed. Though these alterations will increase the accommodation, still they will not be sufficient for the demands of the public. It is a pity that the Department cannot be made to recognise the fact that the present buildings are too small and antiquated for a town the size of Hastings. A new station on the site which the Railway Department has, about a quarter of a mile on the Napier side of the present building, is greatly needed.
