CRICKET.
THE FOURTH TEST.
PRESS COMMENT.
(Received 20, 9.55 a.m.) Sydney, Feb. 20.
The Herald says: “But for Nourse’s plucky uphill fight and Sherwell’s fine performance the South Africans’ innings would have been a dismal failure.”
Hordern’s googlies were a veritable thron in the side of the visitors. His record would have been better but he dislocated his finger in trying to stop the ball.
The “Telegraph” declares the> S. Africans’ most enthusiastic supporter admits no excuse for their • poor score. The bowling was certainly good, but nothing to write ■ home about, and their failure can. only be put down to sheer bad hatting.
• DEATH OF W. L. MURDOCH: [ Melbourne, Feb. 19. Mr. W. L. Murdoch, famous Australian captain, who was a specta- / tor at the test match on Saturday* was, in the luncheon • interval, stricken with an apopletic fit. He was removed to the hospital, and died in a few hours. He was visiting Australia on business. He intended to return tn England week. '
