THE DARKTOWN PERFORMANCE.
A large number of people came out on the Hastings streets last night to witness the performance which was to be given by the Darktown Fire Brigade, in aid of the Lucas family. The proceedings for the night’s amusement were opened by two Indians in full war paint galloping down the main street on two fine horses. About five minutes lapsed before they returned. The procession. which started about a quarter to eight from the Fire Brigade Station. was marshalled by three Indians on horseback. The following took part in the proceedings:— Darktown Fire Brigade. Barrel Entertainers and Band. Spit and Hastings Fire Brigades. Hastings Fire Police, Hastings Town Band and H.B. Highland Pipe Band, and a number of juvenile enthusiasts. The procession marched through the main streets and on arriving at the Fire Station the Darktown Brigade gave an exhibition of life-saving. The total amount of the collection was £22/11’2.’.
