NAPIER SOUTH.
Is reply to our correspondent “A ; Subscriber,” we would point out that it was not the intention of our article to prove that residents of Napier South would come into the i Borough and enjoy all conveniences I and services for the same rate con- | tribution that is demanded at present by the Hawke’s Bay County Council In making comparisons | we must start from the bare geni eral rate struck in both districts. ’ In the County the rates on a £240 | property would be 30/-; in the | Borough 26/3. As situated now the residents in Napier South look for conveniences which are obtainable in the Borough. If they want water they must pay for it. and it would be much cheaper to have the Borough supply than establish an independent system. Certainly the residents outside the Borough escape the water rate, but they are also without the water service. If a special rate has been charged in Napier South to provide interest t on a loan which was raised prior tp I the merging of the district, all we can say is that an explanation t should be demanded by the rate- ‘ payers so charged. In conclusion . let us say that we do not wish to influence Napier South residents in any way whatever, but merely ten-; I der the advice thgt if they are de- ■ termined on change they should weigh well the advantages to be gained by merging in the Borough ‘ before easting in their lot with a ( Town Board.
