Palmerston N.» Feb. 13. The band contest opened this evening ,and 22 bands are in town. The E flat soprano cornet solo resulted as follows:—
F. C. Wilkinson (Gisborne City) 79, 1; W. Francis (Wellington Garrison) 75, 2; R. Watson (Petone Municipal) 73, 3; L. Neighbours (Westport Garrison). 66, 4; J. Trussell (Wanganui Garrison) 64, 5; S. Coombes (Marton Royal) 63, 6; W. Nicholls (Taranaki Garrison), 52; J. A. Kibble (Waitara Municipal} 49 ; J. Thomas (Waihi Federal) 46. B flat baritone.—G. Jensen (Wanganui Garrison), 80, 1; C. Breen (Wellington Garrison), 78, 2; J. Cosgrove (Gisborne City), 64, 3; H. Christensen (Ashburton Temperance). 60; R. Boyd (Wanganui Garrison), 59. To-morrow the official reception will take place. The morning will be devoted to solos and afternoon and evening to test selections.
