The work of laying the sewer pipes in Frederick street, near the corner of Nelson street, which was delayed owing to the largo volume of water in the excavations, has been resumed. The flow is still a& strong as when operations were suspended, and although the work of pumping has been proceeding continuously, it has not been sufficient io cope with the inrush of water. The trench at this point is some lo to 17 feet deep, and has tapped what appears to be an underground river.
