TRAGIC DUEL BY TORCHLIGHT.
A duel between two tyrel,! kno»’n members of the Paris theatrical world was fought by torchlight on 3rd December, and one of the two combati»nts received a dangerous wound. M. Raucourt was formerly stage manager in a Paris theatre, and about a year ago his wife left him. At dinner one night, M. Champagne, a theatrical journalist, spoke in hard terms of Mme. Raucourt’s desertion.
Thereupon M. Raucourt rushed at him and slapped his face. A duel was immediately arranged, and was fought at eleven o’clock at night in a private garden near Ville d’Avray. Swords were used, and the seconds end other men present—one of them was a doctor—stood round the combatants with the lamps from the motor cars and torches.

SEAGULLS ATTACK FISHERMAN.
While two fishermen were cleaning their catch of fish in a boat off Moon Island, Boston, they were attacked by a thousand ravenous seagulls, and one of them received a number of wounds from beaks and talons _ before other fishermen beat off the birds with oars and boathooks.
