SUPREME COURT.

Wellington, Feb. 3. George Williams was found guilty of having on December 7th (1) assaulted Bartholomew Mahoney with intent to rob him ; (2) assaulted Mahoney so as to cause him actual bodily harm ; and (3) assaulted Mahoney with intent to cofnmit a crime. The prisoner was remanded for sentence till Monday. Christchurch, Feb. 3. In connection with the charge against William Pitcaithly of indecent assault, which was dismissed on the grounds of insufficient evidence, the police applied for a retrial, and as a result of the application accused has been summoned to appear before Mr. T. A. Bailey at 10 o’clock to-morrow morning, when the case will be reheard. Christchurch, Feb. 4. William Pitcathley, against whom the charge of indecent assault was dismissed on Wednesday by a Justice of the Peace, was again before the Court to-day. Mr. Bailey, S.M., presiding. Fresh ;n--forrnation was laid by the police, the evidence given on Wednesday was sworn to by the witnesses, and further evidence was given by a hoy 12 years of age. The magistrate committed the accused for trial. Dunedin, Feb. 3. Charles Kennedy, who during a drunken bout broke into Wright, Stephenson’s store, was ordered to be detained in a reformatory for a period of ten years. This is the first application of section 3 of the amendment to the Crimes Act. Judge Williams said the new Prisons Board could release him any time on being satisfied of the genuineness of his reform.

PRISONERS’ SENTENCED

Wellington, Feb. 4.

Mr. Justice Chapman sentenced seven prisoners to-day. Herman Henry Grell, and Percival George Hester, for breaking and entering with theft. The latter got probation for three, years, and was ordered to pay £5 costs. Grell was sentenced to six months of reformative treatment. Janies McLean, for false pretences, to 12 months’ treatment. Frederick Williams Jones, for forgery and uttering, to two y fears’, and declared an habitual criminal. Sydney Robert Hansen, for theft,’ to 12 months and three years’ detention for treatment. William Thomas, alias Thompson, for theft from dwelling, to two years and two years’ treatment. Albert Murphy, attempted housebreaking. to three years’ treatment.

SENTENCED FOR THEFT Palmerston North, Feb. <

Howard Walters, alias Erl Wayne, previously convicted of horse stealing at Auckland, was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment with hard labour for stealing two cash boxes containing £l6 cash, from the Manawatu Club, where the accused was employed.
