Mr. Lewin, of Lyttelton, was ye* terday appointed Town Clerk of Dunedin, in succession to Mr. R W. Richards. There were 38 appLcations for the position, which carries a salary of £6OO per annum. At the request of the Dannevirke A. and P. Society, Messrs. F. Hutchinson and J. Absolum have consented to act as judges of the Romney sheep sections at the society’s forthcoming show. Mr. M. Myers, of the legal firm of Bell. Gully. Bell, and Myers, and Mrs. Myers, left on a trip to the Old Country by the White Star liner lonic to-day. The trip, in which Mr. Myers will combine business with pleasure, and extend over Coronation time at Home. Mr. Justice Denniston, who ha. been on a year’s furlough in the Mother Country and on the Continent, returned to New Zealand yesterday, via Sydney. He is looking remarkably well, and lias quite recovered from a minor operation that he underwent before leaving England. He will resume work a. once, and in two days proceed to Christchurch and Timaru.

The friends of Mr. Frank Fenmn will regret to learn that his wife died early yesterday morning. She had been in poor health for some months, and did not ’ rally from a recent operation. Sincere will he felt for Mr. Fenton in his sad loss. The funeral took place this afternoon, and was aitendvd by a large number of friends.
