MEETING OF CABINET.
WORKS AUTHORISED.
1 Wellington. Jan. 24. A very large amount of business was transacted by the Cabinet today. the total authorisations under the different headings being as follows : —Boards. £14,600 ; railways, £10,672 ; bridges, £4550. Among the road votes authorised the most important were £lOOO for the Pongaroa-Waione road, £l3OO on a £ for £ subsidy for the Pukekawa road (Raglan), £'7so for the ' Gisborne-Tolaga Bay road, and £l5OO for various roads to open up blocks in the Stratford district.. Under the heading of railways-. ; there w-as an authorisation of £762: for the Midland railway, and au- ! thorisations totalling £B5OO on the i Kaiwaka, Bickerstaff, and Otama- ! tea sections of the North of Auck-- ; land line.
It was decided to call for tenders i for the "Big Hill” tunnel on the i Lawrence-Roxburgh railway, and ! for workers’ cottages and huts on the Kawakawa-Grahamstown railway route. Tenders are also to be invited for the Mokau river bridge at , Kahuwera road. On account of the new buildings at the Hermitage, Mount Cook, there was an authorisation of £6OO. The erect ion of a new chapel and workshop at the Invercargill gaol was approved. The installation <>f an exoeri- '■ mental plant at the Thames School ; >f Mines at a cost of £275 was i .uthorised.
